Jay Gets His 1st Job is the third episode of the Jay & Mikey series.

Synopsis[]

Jay needs money for two tickets to a Taylor Swift concert he's going to with Gretchen, but he can't accept it from his mother as he is in trouble for failing a math test. He finds a job to become a dog walker, but things don't go too well afterwards, and then he gets in even bigger trouble.

Plot[]

Jay strikes a piggy bank on the floor with a baseball bat as lots of money comes out of it. Jay shows Mikey and Noah the money he has and that he has stacks in the bank, as Noah tells him there are different definitions for the word "bank". Jay looks at his money and sees that he doesn't even have close to two tickets for the Taylor Swift concert he's going to, which makes Mikey and Noah laugh at him and make fun of him. Jay tells Mikey and Noah that he will also take Gretchen with him to the concert, because she hasn't talked with him ever since she kissed him at the dance. Mikey congratulates him, before turning out that he was mocking him dating Gretchen singing the "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" rhyme, before getting interrupted by Regina. She asks Jay if he has something to tell her, before admitting that he used up all her hairspray to make a blow torch. But she wasn't talking about that. Then, Jay admits that he stayed up until 4 AM playing video games and eating ice cream, but she wasn't talking about that either. She was talking about Jay failing his math test just when school ended. Regina is so frustrated with Jay that she was going to say no PS5 for the weekend, but after finding out he used her hairspray to make a blow torch and stayed up late at night, she grounds him with no allowance AND no PS5 for the whole summer. Everyone tries to stop Regina from taking the PS5 away, and Jay questions how will they survive without money. Regina suggests Jay to get a job on his free time and make some money, as he is not getting any more money from her. Then, Regina tells the boys to go outside and play, before threatening Jay that she will take away his laptop and tablet as well.

Outside, the boys are playing ball as they complain about having to go outside, claiming that "this is how they played in the prehistoric times". Noah throws the ball to Jay, but he doesn't catch it because he was busy daydreaming, he tells Noah that he has more important things to worry about, like how does he get the concert tickets. However, Mikey suggests him to volunteer to do the laundry, then steal some money that Regina has in her pockets. Mikey offers to give Jay a dollar if he can catch the ball. Jay backs away to try and catch the ball, but he accidentally steps on poop on the sidewalk. Jay gets furious as he just ruined his fresh, brand new shoes. Just then, a man walking three dogs approaches him and apologizes for the inconvenience with the occasional number two his dogs have to do. Jay finds out that he is a dog walker, before he gets some money from the man as an apology for ruining his shoes.

Angered, Jay runs back to Mikey and Noah, showing them the money he got from the dog walker, giving him an idea to become a dog walker to make money for the concert tickets. Noah tells Jay that he is horrible at taking care of things, reminding him of the time he had a fish and it lived for less than a day. As a result, Mikey then reminds him of the time his turtle escaped, before telling him that turtles walk one mile per hour and that nobody loses a turtle. Jay leaves to find a few dogs to walk.

Later that day, Jay is walking a Doberman named Bella with Mikey and Noah. Jay offers to give Bella some ice cream, before Noah informs him that it's bad to give dogs dairy. Jay then licks the ice cream he fed Bella, disgusting Mikey and Noah. Jay tells Noah that he found one dog from the next door neighbor, and the other one from the old lady down the street. Bella is from Regina's boss, Mr. Braverman. Jay also tells them that he is getting paid $10 to walk their dogs, unable to wait for the Taylor Swift tickets. Noah questions what if Gretchen doesn't agree to go with him, which Jay doesn't agree with his question. However, he steps on another poop on the sidewalk, and angrily berates Bella. Jay doesn't want to clean the poop from the sidewalk since it's disgusting, wet and gross. Just then, a buff man approaches them from behind, and Jay turns around before getting scared and quickly cleaning the poop as the buff strong man prepares his knuckles.

Just as Jay is cleaning the poop, Bella encounters another dog who begins barking at her. Bella begins to bark angrily at the dog as Jay tries to stop her. However, Bella manages to escape and Jay falls over, dirtying himself on the poop. Jay immediately jumps out and rubs the poop all over Noah's shirt, subsequently calling it lame, questioning the ghost on it. Jay is worried about Bella, and Mikey and Noah both point separate ways but Jay is unsure where to go. Jay gets an idea, he tells Noah to take the other two dogs back and that he will text their addresses to him, and he tells Mikey to go with him and help him retrieve Bella. Noah doesn't want to do the job, but Jay still gives him the poop cleaner anyway.

Jay just then finds Bella running along the streets. Jay and Mikey run after Bella, who sprints past a woman holding multiple Starbucks coffee cups, and gets them spilled when Jay and Mikey run past her. Mikey runs into a police officer, who restrains him and Jay now has to go alone. Jay runs after Bella, who sprints past a woman with a baby carriage as the baby laughs inside. Bella runs into the same buff man from before, who nearly gets his drink spilled. Then, Bella runs into a group of women doing yoga. Jay runs into the man and spills his drink all over him, before getting frightened and running away. A woman doing yoga informs the instructor that the dog is next to her. Jay finds the dog and tries to catch it, but he trips over and falls, managing to do an impressive downward dog. Meanwhile, Mikey is freed from the police officer, just as he notices Bella running inside the Bookside School. Just as Mikey is about to catch Bella, he runs into his teacher who found out that he cheated on one of her tests, to which he admits he did. Then, Bella runs in the cinema, as Jay is still after her. Jay sneaks in the cinema and goes after Bella, where he attempts to jump on her, but Bella runs away, thus leading to Jay falling and spilling popcorn.

Jay and Mikey sit on a bench, accepting their loss in trying to catch Bella. Mikey, however, has to go to summer school, which is a big L for him. Jay doesn't know what to tell Mr. Braverman, as he will be dead if he tells him the truth. Just then, Jay gets a call. He pulls out his phone and sees that Mr. Braverman is calling him, before accepting his doom. Mikey, however, gets an idea and tells Jay to follow him.

Mikey leads Jay to a pet shop, his plan being to buy a new dog that looks like Bella, since Jay cannot show up to Mr. Braverman's house without a dog. Mikey finds a dog that looks just like Bella, but Jay realizes that Bella had darker fur around her eyes. Mikey suggests to simply drop a collar on him and he will be just like the old Bella. Noah runs in and finds the two in the pet shop, wondering why he had to run all the way there with 50 bucks with himself. Jay reveals that he is about to buy a new Bella, to which Noah is shocked and informs him that honesty is the best policy and that he should just tell the truth. The pet shop owner asks if the boys want to buy Rex, the dog she was petting and grooming. She tells them she will need $50 for the adoption fee and a parent signature, to which Jay is confused. The owner tells them that Adoption Policy states that an animal can only be released to an adult. She offers to call his mom for permission, but Mikey makes an excuse that the dog is a surprise for his mom's birthday and that he does not want to spoil the surprise for her.

Later, Mikey, Jay, and Noah are at Mr. Braverman's house, to which Noah leaves, not wanting to get involved in the situation. Mr. Braverman finds Rex, mistaking him for Bella, and leads him in. Mr. Braverman gives Jay $50, but just as he is about to leave, he notices that Bella's collar was originally red and questions why is it blue. Jay makes an excuse that blue suited Bella better, because "blue for Bella". Mr. Braverman offers to give Jay more cash, and he asks Rex to lay down, but he does not want to, as Bella always laid down before when she was told to. Mikey makes an excuse that Bella is just exhausted from a long walk. Mikey accidentally calls Rex "boy", before Mr. Braverman informs him that Bella is a girl. But just then, Rex urinates on the ground, revealing that, it is, in fact a boy. Mr. Braverman is about to call Jay's mom, but Jay stops him from doing so. Mr. Braverman did not want to do it anyway, as she is already here.

Regina tells Jay that Bella ran all the way to Mr. Braverman's house and notices that they bought another dog to replace Bella. As for his punishment, Jay now has to walk dogs for free the whole summer and give them back to their owners. Jay knocks on the door, and Ms. Winston, an old lady, thanks Jay for bringing Leo, her dog back. As she is about to give Jay money, he tells her that his mom told him he can't accept money any longer. Ms. Winston offers to give Jay the Taylor Swift tickets, originally planned for her granddaughter. Jay is very excited that he finally got the tickets, which means he can ask Gretchen out. He Facetimes Gretchen and tells her he got the tickets to the concert, but she is already going with Brock, devastating Jay. Mikey tells him that Sheryl Crow always said "First cut is always the deepest", which confuses Jay and Noah, thinking why would he listen to Sheryl Crow. As Jay says that he will never find love again, he encounters a pretty girl walking out the door, to which he takes back everything he said and runs after her.
