Plot[]
The episode starts with Joey sleeping in class and his friend, Sam trying to wake him up. He first tries yelling his name and when that doesn't work, he shoots a spitball at him and that doesn't work, either, so he gives up. Joey finally wakes up after Mrs. Milia says ahem twice. She gives him his last quiz and tells him that if he spent more time studying and less time napping in her class, maybe he'd get better grades. At the end of class, she says that they have a final on Monday and taht everyone can leave except for Joey, who tells her that he's sorry about napping in her class again and says it won't happen again. Mrs. Milia says that he said that the last few times and all this stuff too: ¨I'm concerned that you're falling behind, Joey. This last quiz, your homework assignments. You're not where you need to be to move on to Algebra 1 next year. If you don't get an A on the final, then you're gonna have to go to summer school and try again.¨ Joey says, ¨What? I'm not taking this class over. It's bad enough the first time around.¨ Mrs. Milia says, ¨Hey, lots of kids love my class.¨ Joey says only the nerdy ones do and that it's true. Mrs. Milia then says, ¨Here's the thing, Joey. I know that you're smart, but judging from your work, you seem to take a lot of shortcuts. My grandma used to say, ¨If you cut corners, then you'll just keep going in circles.¨ Joey says that since her grandma said that then it must be true. Mrs. Milia says, ¨I'm serious, Joey. If you wanna pass my class, then I suggest you get a tutor. Here's the name of someone who I recommend. She can help you with your final, but you're gonna have to start right away.¨ Joey says, ¨All right, Mrs. Milia. Don't worry, Mrs. Milia. That won't be a problem.¨ Mrs. Milia then says it's up to him if he doesn't want to go to summer school.
After that talk, he tells Sam everything that Mrs. Milia told him right now. Sam then asks him, ¨So you're not going to Kim's party 'cause you have to study? I wasn't planning on going alone, but guess I don't really have a choice. Molly's gonna be there and I wanna talk to her.¨ Joey refuses and that he just needs to get an A on the final. Sam asks how he'll get an A without studying. Joey says, ¨Simple. I saw Mrs. Milia's answer key on her desk. I get a hold of that, I pass Pre-Algebra. You get to talk to Molly. And we'll all live happily ever after.¨ Sam asks how he'll get the answer key if she's always in her classroom. Joey says they'll break in tonight and grab the answer key just in time for the party. He also says, ¨It's perfect. Our parents know that we're going to the party, but we can just say that we spent the night at each others' houses¨. However, Sam refuses because they'll get suspended or expelled and Joey disagrees. Sam still says no because it's still too risky. Joey says, ¨Well, like my grandma says, ¨High risk, high reward.¨ Sam asks if his grandma actually said that and Joey says no and that when Mrs. Milia said her grandma said something, it sounded pretty official, so he'd thought he'd try it. He then says, ¨Please? If I fail, we can't hang this summer. Do you really want that. Come on. For your best friend?¨. Sam then says fine, but only if it's in and out.
That night, Sam and Joey are able to get inside the school undetected and Joey takes a picture of Mrs. Milia's answer key on his phone. When they try to leave, they see the front doors are locked. Joey tells Sam to try the doors through the other exit and he'll try the doors through the cafeteria. They find out they're both locked. Sam asks Joey what to do, and he says to give him a minute to think. Because of this, Sam says to call for help, and Joey says that then people would know they snuck in. Sam asks if he wants to break out a window. Joey says the alarm would go off and the cops would be called. Sam then says to Joey that he's the reason they're in this situation and that he should've never listened to him and that they're stuck here unless he finds a way to pick a lock. Joey then tells Sam to check Mrs. Milia's room for bobby pins. Sam finds one, and Joey tries it, but it doesn't work. Sam then says, ¨Yeah, everything on TV's real, right? Just like Mother of Dragons, Khalessi, Breaker of Chains. She's probably a real person too, right?¨ Joey then says, ¨That's it!¨ and they go to the cleaning room to look for tools to break the lock and find some wire cutters, but those don't break the lock either. Joey then tells Sam he has another idea. Sam says he won't listen, but that he has one and gives Joey a flashlight and a fire hose to try to get out of the school through the vents and he fails because of a spider being in there and him having to come back to Sam. He explains what happened. After they get out of Mrs. Milia's room, Sam says they missed the party and his only chance to talk to Molly. Joey says they have better things to worry about. Sam then sees an unlocked door in the cleaning room and they use that to get out.
Two weeks later, Mrs. Milia says she had to make a new answer key because of the raccoons. Joey asks if she's telling the truth. She says she is. Joey then sees he got an F on the final and Mrs. Milia tells him that he has to go to summer school in the summer now. The episode ends with Joey still refuses.
Moral[]
If you cut corners, then you'll keep going in circles.
