Plot[]
As the video begins, the students are disgusted by the food they're eating. They then decide to have a food fight. Laila gives Hazel a card for her birthday sleepover. She wanted to take her to the Griffith Observatory, but the tickets are expensive. So instead, she's putting stars all over her apartment and she's borrowing a projector from school. They could bake cookies and watch movies. Just then, Principal Danvers, (Eliot) is giving a new student a tour of the school, who was revealed to be Hazel's childhood friend, Michaela. She then tells Hazel that they should take a reunion photo. Laila realizes the two have English together.
Michaela said that she had her dad call the school because he was a big donor to their school. So he pulled a few strings and got her into all of Hazel's classes.
The two leave when Laila got herself in a bucket incident. At lunch, Laila looks on Instagram and learns that they didn't include her in the photo.
The two arrive and discuss Hazel's birthday sleepover. Laila went to the library and got them that book for their birthday sleepover this weekend. On the other hand, Michaela wants to throw Hazel a party, but they ignore Laila. As a result, Michaela decided she can have the sleepover at Laila's and then come to her house for the party, making Laila jealous. Then, the two head off to buy a dress for Hazel. Laila mimics Michaela, who tosses the book with anger. Principal Danvers comes and asks, "What'd you do that for?" She then tells him what's going on. She doesn't get why Michaela even had to transfer there. She's just taken Hazel away from her. He's sure Hazel's just excited to have Michaela around now, but that doesn't mean she cares for you any less. However, she denies it and tells him that she hardly doesn't pay attention to her. She's attached to the hip with Michaela. Principal Danvers remembers when he was younger, one of his best friends moved outta state, and he was really sad at first, but his mom said something he'll never forget. She said, "Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're always there."
On the day of Hazel's birthday, Laila gives Hazel a birthday present. When Michaela's dad arrives, Michaela introduces her to her dad. She asks him if he's happy to be back in California. He said he prefers the weather there, but they kept their New York home so they can spend the holidays there. When Michaela's dad leaves, she starts her plan to ruin Hazel's party. It transitions to a pizza delivery guy when Laila comes. She makes up a lie by saying, that there's a kid in their school that keeps calling random pizza places and sends the pizza guy away. She puts toothpaste on the cake, adds pickle juice in the punch, puts cat food in the dip, puts a bag of dog poop in Michaela's gift, and lastly she ruins the bouncy house.
Inside, the students are getting hungry, she gives them chips with dip. Everyone seems so annoyed. Michaela gives Hazel the gift, but she opens it, and she receives a bag of dog poo, and Michaela runs off; upset. Laila then hears Michaela crying. She opens her gift, and the gift is a picture frame; with Hazel, Michaela, and Laila on it and three tickets to Griffith Observatory, and instantly regrets it. Michaela can't believe how much she ruined Hazel's party, and she even thinks she's such a bad friend. Laila admits that she was the one who ruined the party. Because of this, she was worried that she was gonna lose Hazel, so she thought if she ruined the party, she'd stop being her friend. It transitions to Laila, Michaela, and Hazel watching a movie. Hazel tells Laila that she could come to New York with them. They're gonna celebrate Laila's birthday in New York, this makes Laila excited. It ends with the three of them watching a movie.
