Plot[]

Timothy and Angela are at a restaurant with their toddler son, Johnny. While they are waiting for their orders, Tim expresses frustration at the fact that the service seems rather slow on top of the fact that Johnny unconsciously sets the volume too high on his iPad. His wife, Angela, reminds him to calm down and keep control of his anger, but Tim is unwilling to acknowledge his own problems.

Upon their orders being taken by a waiter, Tim angrily berates the waiter for having made a mistake with their drink orders, much to the chagrin of his wife and attracting the attention of other diners. Angela reminds him that they have to drop Johnny off at Tim's mother's home before going to therapy, at which Tim expresses exasperation and shows regret at having agreed upon such sessions.

The session with the therapist does not go well, with Tim refusing to acknowledge the extent of his anger issues. It is revealed that Tim had a troubled childhood where his parents would constantly argue with one another, and he angrily accuses his wife of nagging him. However, Tim refuses to recognize the extent to which his parents' quarrels affected him, and dismisses them. As the session continues, Timothy only grows more annoyed and irritated, feeling as though the therapist and his wife are teaming up against him, and he storms off in a huff.

After he leaves, the therapist asks Angela whether Timothy's anger is ever physical, to which Angela assures that while her husband is oftentimes verbally abusive, his anger never escalates to physical abuse nor destruction of property. The therapist, however, is concerned, and convinced that Timothy has major anger problems and impulse control issues which will inevitably cause major problems down the road, and hands Angela a bag of items, which will be presented to Timothy upon the latter acknowledging his problems.

The therapist's predictions are proven to be true a few days later, when Timothy loses his job due to having an angry outburst at one of his coworkers, Sarah, who gently reminds him to finish the TPS reports for the meeting. Tim, however, quickly becomes agitated and lashes out at the young woman, accusing her of being a micromanager, which attracts the attention of not only his coworkers, but also his manager, Barbara, who promptly dismisses him for unprofessional conduct.

Following his dismissal, Timothy goes to the playcenter where his son is hanging out. He meets up with his wife, and reveals what had happened. At that moment, Angela emphasizes the fact that her husband's anger issues have gone too far. Timothy once again refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and blames Sarah. Things are only worsened the situation when Timothy lashes out at other parents at the playcenter, prompting the staff to order him to leave.

Back home, Timothy finally recognizes the consequences of his anger management issues. Angela hands her husband the bag that their therapist had given him, which consists of a hammer, nails, and a wooden board. Each time Timothy loses his temper, he must nail a new nail into the wooden board. Over the next several weeks, Timothy works hard a controlling his anger, but struggles as he continues to lash out and lose his patience at different people in various places, whether it be at restaurants, stores, or other public places. His wife is quick to remind him to keep his composure, and with each outburst, he is forced to hammer another nail into the wooden board.

With time, he improves his anger management and impulse control, and it is not long before he is able to go one month without losing his temper in the face of personal slights. His wife demonstrates pride at him, and the therapist pays them an unexpected visit, where he requires Timothy to pull out all the nails from the board. This is to demonstrate that angry outburst have lasting effects on one's closest friends and relatives who are exposed to it. Just then, Timothy receives a call from his mother, who is at the play center with Johnny.

It is revealed that Johnny lost his temper and hit another child. Timothy displays chagrin and disappointment, seeing that his angry outburst have affected his son.
