After Bethany receives her new Porsche Cayenne, she and her friends bully and shame a poor girl named Allison for driving an old car.

Allison goes into trouble with her little sister Natalie. First, Natalie does not have any money on her lunch money card. (She --Natalie-- finds Allison in the lost and found. She wants to buy hot lunch, but the lunch lady found her lunch money card declined. So she asks her big sister for a solution.) It (her lunch card) declined and she has no credits left. (That is, and she --Natalie-- can't get hot lunch. She is out of lunches. While not seen, the lunch lady suggested a free lunch, but Natalie did not like it.)

Well, Allison gives Natalie her $50 bill for her lunch card. (That is, so she --Natalie-- can buy lunch with her lunch card and get hot lunch.) Now Natalie continues having lunch money on her lunch card (for the rest of the school year). And thus, she can get one hot lunch, a drink, and a dessert or one item (from the snack bar). But when Allison puts money on Natalie's lunch card, Allison is not able to buy hot lunch. (That is, when she tries to get the same thing as her sister Natalie --a hot lunch, a drink, and one dessert or extra item from the snack bar.)

The lunch lady says to Allison that her lunch card declined and is out of lunches. So she (the lunch lady) lets Allison have a free lunch. She gives Allison the free lunch and takes her usual lunch (hot lunch, drink, and dessert/snack bar item). The free lunch for Allison consists of a bologna sandwich and snacking vegetables.

When Bethany and her gang see Allison (with her free lunch), they likewise pick on her about it too. And Allison says she is going to "stare at it until she is no longer hungry". (That is, since she finds the free lunch options gross. And today, she was forced to eat a bologna sandwich which has snacking vegetables, cottage cheese, and no desserts.) While it is not seen onscreen, Allison's lunch did not have any desserts. Natalie (in return) helps Allison. And she gave her (Allison) only what was left of her cookie.

Bethany soon knows that Allison is living a very difficult life and that her mother has cancer. When the tests come back, the doctor says that Allison's mom only has a few years left to live. (Allison's mom is near dying.) Allison and Natalie's mom, she is going through with cancer. That is why she is not able to afford gas or put money on Allison and Natalie's lunch cards.
